Sedation Dentistry
Experience dental care in a calm, relaxed state with safe and effective sedation options tailored to your needs.
Comfort-Focused Dental Care with a Conservative, Safety-First Approach
Dental anxiety is common, especially when complex or lengthy dental treatment is needed. At Shoop Dentistry, we offer carefully selected sedation options to help patients feel calm and comfortable during appropriate procedures — without compromising safety.
Sedation dentistry at our office is provided by Dr. Shoop, the owner and treating dentist of this privately operated practice. Shoop Dentistry is not corporate or investor owned, and sedation decisions are based on clinical judgment and patient safety, not convenience or volume.
Nitrous Oxide: A mild sedative to help you relax.
What Is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry uses medication to help patients remain relaxed during dental treatment. It is most appropriate for significant or involved procedures, where comfort and cooperation are important.
Sedation is not necessary for most routine dental care, and it is not used as a convenience option at our office.
Here’s how sedation dentistry can help:
Sedation Options We Offer
We provide personalized dental implant solutions designed to restore missing teeth, improve stability, and give you a confident, natural-looking smile that lasts for years.
Each treatment plan is carefully tailored to your oral health, goals, and long-term comfort.
For patients who experience dental anxiety but do not require moderate sedation, oral anti-anxiety medication may be prescribed when appropriate.
This option is intended to reduce anxiety and improve comfort during treatment without the need for deeper sedation.
After evaluation of your medical history and prescriptions you are on, Dr. Shoop may prescribe a single dose of anxiety medication to take 1 hour prior to the appointment which works best if you are on an empty stomach for 6hrs prior. It is required that you have transportation to and from the appointment and are not allowed to drive yourself.
Moderate sedation helps patients feel deeply relaxed while remaining conscious and responsive. Patients can follow instructions during treatment and often remember very little of the procedure.
This option is typically used for:
- Full-arch dental implant procedures
- Complex surgical extractions
- Lengthy or involved treatments
Moderate sedation is considered a safer alternative to deeper forms of sedation when appropriate.
Patients with moderate sedation will require a sedation consultation with eval and informed consent, transportation to and from the appointment, use of a patient monitor system including capnography and oral titration of sedation (sublingual) and extended appointment times.
Shoop Dentistry does not offer IV/deep sedation. This can be offered with 3rd party anesthesia companies brought in office upon request.
Sedation is also not provided for routine treatments such as basic fillings or cleanings. Single dose anxiety medication is utilized for this.
This reflects our conservative, safety-focused philosophy.
Our Sedation Dentistry Process
Sedation dentistry at Shoop Dentistry is designed to help patients feel calm, relaxed, and comfortable throughout their treatment.
Independent, Doctor-Led Dental Care
Shoop Dentistry is a privately owned, doctor-led dental practice. Dr. Shoop is both the owner of the practice and the dentist providing your care.
This matters because sedation decisions are:
Sedation is offered only when it provides meaningful benefit for complex treatment — never as a default option.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Sedation Dentistry?
You may be a candidate for sedation dentistry if you:
A consultation is required to determine whether sedation is suitable for you.
