All treatment is provided by Dr. Shoop, the owner and treating dentist of this independently operated dental practice. Shoop Dentistry is not part of a corporate dental network or backed by investors, and all care decisions are made locally, chairside, and with your long-term comfort in mind.

What Are Implant Supported Dentures?

Implant-supported dentures are removable dentures that are secured in place using dental implants. Unlike traditional dentures that rest on the gums alone, implant-supported dentures “snap” or attach to implants placed in the jawbone, providing significantly improved stability. These are meant solely for lower jaw dentures and are not recommended for the upper teeth.

Lower Implant-Retained Dentures

Lower dentures are especially prone to movement. Implant-supported lower dentures offer a dramatic improvement in stability and comfort compared to traditional dentures. With 2 implants in the anterior jaw, the denture is prevented from floating around and twisting and being moved significantly by the tongue. This offers a dramatic improvement for full lower dentures. The back teeth can elevate and typically adhesive is best used in this area to keep it from lifting.

Dr. Shoop does not offer upper snap on implant dentures for the full upper denture. In his experience, the best outcomes are for adhesive only on a full upper denture or fixed implant teeth.

Removable Partial Dentures (RPD) can attach securely to implants while using remaining teeth for support and retention as well. This option is often ideal for patients who want better function than traditional partial dentures without a full denture, implant borne teeth, long spans in the back teeth needing retention or desire to prevent metal arms/clasps around front teeth when retention is needed in the area.

Our Implant-Supported Denture Process

Implant-supported dentures at Shoop Dentistry follow a carefully planned process to ensure secure placement, long-term stability, and reliable results.

Step 1: Consultation & Evaluation
We begin with an exam and imaging to assess bone health, existing dentures, and overall oral condition. Dr. Shoop will review whether implant-supported dentures are appropriate and explain available options. There is no pressure to proceed.
Step 2:Treatment Planning
A personalized plan is created based on your anatomy and goals. This includes the number of implants needed, denture design, timeline, and cost considerations. Everything is reviewed in advance so expectations are clear.
Step 3: Implant Placement
Dental implants are placed to support the denture securely. For more involved procedures, anxiety medication of moderate sedation may be used to help patients remain comfortable while staying conscious and responsive. Shoop Dentistry does not offer IV or deep sedation but can have a 3rd party offer this in office upon request.
Step 4: Denture Attachment & Adjustment
Once healing is complete, the denture is attached to the implants and adjusted for comfort, stability, and proper fit. Follow-up visits help ensure long-term success and ease of use.

Implant-supported dentures are commonly chosen by patients who:

  • Are not candidates for, or do not want, full-arch fixed teeth

 Yes. Implant-supported dentures are designed to be removable for cleaning while remaining secure during daily activities.

Do implant-supported dentures feel more stable than traditional dentures?
 Yes. Most patients experience a significant improvement in stability, comfort, and chewing ability.

How many implants are needed?
 The number of implants varies depending on the case. This is determined during the consultation. A minimum of 2 implants around the canine area are required in the lower jaw. On the upper jaw, implant retention is only offered for removable partial dentures. If a more secure and confident option is desired, please ask about fixed implant teeth.

Is Shoop Dentistry owned by a corporation or investors?
